Big Brothers Big Sisters Wood Buffalo (BBBSWB) celebrated the 10th Anniversary SMS Equipment Wine Auction on Saturday, September 21, 2019. For nearly a decade, hundreds of wine lovers had gathered each September to raise a glass and funds for the local social profit organization, supporting its mentoring programs for children and youth across the region.

SMS Equipment Inc., the presenting partner since the event’s inception, marked the anniversary with special initiatives, including the construction of a custom venue. “At SMS Equipment our people define us and it’s the people of this generous community who are helping to define a brighter future for the children and youth who benefit from our annual fundraiser,” said Larry Gouthro, General Manager, SMS Equipment Inc.

Since 2010, over 950 children and youth had benefited from the community’s support, enabling BBBSWB to launch new programs and expand its service area. The event featured the Manitoulin Transport Tasting Room with a variety of tasting experiences and performances on the Suncor Stage by musical artist Becca Hess—nominated for both BCCMA ‘Female Vocalist of the Year’ and ‘Rising Star’ awards in 2017—and Canadian Idol fan favourite Bernard Quilala.

“Suncor is proud to continue its longstanding relationship with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Wood Buffalo,” said Shelley Powell, Senior Vice President, Base Plant Operations. “Mentoring plays a crucial role in helping create a better future for our next generation and that aligns with Suncor’s vision to create energy for a better world.”
