About Us
“We believe that by changing the course of young lives we can in turn be changing the course of a community’s future.”
Big Brothers Big Sisters Wood Buffalo mission is to enable life-changing mentoring relationships to ignite the power and potential of young people. Mentoring is an essential service and intuitively, an effective prevention program for children and youth. BBBS matches young people to a positive mentor, through individual one- to –one matches or group programming.
Operating within the community of Wood Buffalo since 1979, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Wood Buffalo originally started out by matching Big Sisters with Little Sisters, but as the community grew and the needs changed, we responded by developing new programs and expanding existing programs to suit the diversity of our region. Our programs and community based matches include Traditional Community Based Mentoring program (Bigs/Littles), In School Mentoring, Corporate Mentoring, Couple Matches, Youth Initiated Mentoring, Full Circle Mentoring program, Game On and Go Girls.
To date, Big Brothers Big Sisters has provided mentors to over 6,000 young people. With the growing needs within our region, we have an increased demand for additional programming and mentoring for the many children and youth anxiously waiting for a Big Brother or Big Sister.
